Thomas Jefferson Kaye (born 1940 as Thomas Jefferson Kontos in North Dakota, died 1994) was an American record producer, singer-songwriter and musician. Described as a “lengendary hipster”, Kaye produced recordings as diverse as the garage classic 96 Tears by ? and the Mysterians,[1] Dead Skunk by Loudon Wainwright III and numerous albums by former Byrd Gene Clark.
He released numerous albums as a recording artist as well, including First Grade (ABC, 1974) which was produced by noted Steely Dan producer Gary Katz,[2] which is notable for containing two little-known Walter Becker/Donald Fagen compositions, "American Lovers" and "Jones".
